TabFade Privacy Policy

Overview

TabFade does not collect, transmit, or sell any data. There is no server, no analytics, and no account.

What TabFade stores, and where

Tab metadata including URL, title, favicon URL, pin or mute state, and last-active timestamp for tabs currently open in your browser. This information is read through Chrome's tabs API to display tab ages and power the archive feature. It lives only in memory and in chrome.storage.session, which is cleared when the browser closes.

Recent URL activity estimates including page URL and last-active timestamp are saved locally in chrome.storage.local as a best-effort fallback for estimating tab age after Chrome restarts. This data remains only on your device and is automatically limited to a rolling set of recent entries.

Archived tab records including URL, title, favicon URL, last-active time, archive time, restore time, window ID, and tab-group ID are saved in chrome.storage.local when you archive a tab so you can search for and restore it later.

Settings such as the stale-tab threshold, badge preference, and auto-archive preference are saved in chrome.storage.local.

How your data is used

All stored information is used only to show tab ages, manage the local archive, restore tabs, update the badge, and run optional auto-archive features.

None of this data leaves your device. It is not sent to any server, shared with third parties, sold, used for advertising, or used for tracking.

Incognito

TabFade does not request incognito access and does not track or archive incognito tabs.

Data deletion

Use "Delete" on an archived entry to remove it.

Use "Clear restored" to bulk-remove restored entries.

Uninstalling TabFade removes its locally stored extension data from your browser.

Permissions and why they are needed

tabs — reads tab titles, URLs, favicon information, pinned state, audio state, window location, and last-accessed timestamps so TabFade can display tab ages and manage the archive.

storage — saves settings, archived entries, recent URL activity estimates, and temporary activity information locally.

alarms — refreshes the stale-tab badge periodically and runs the optional auto-archive check.

notifications — shows one summary notification after an enabled automatic archive operation archives tabs.

favicon — displays site icons through Chrome's internal favicon cache without directly contacting websites.

Page access and remote services

TabFade has no host permissions, no content scripts, and no scripting permission.

TabFade does not read the text, images, forms, or other content inside webpages.

TabFade does not use remote code, analytics services, external servers, or third-party tracking tools.
